Humboldt 47, Central Heights 39
PLEASANTON — Humboldt’s quick burst at the end of the third quarter was too much for the Central Heights boys to overcome Thursday in the semifinals of the Pleasanton Invitational.
Humboldt went on a 7-0 run to close out the quarter to build a 10-point lead en route to handing the Vikings a 47-39 loss.
“Going into the fourth, they spaced us out and we exerted a lot of energy defensively and our offensive timing was a little out of whack.
“When the brain gets tired and frustrated, you have to be self-disciplined and make sure all five guys on the floor are on the same page. We are getting better, but we still have a lot of fixing to do before we can be great.”
The first half was close as Humboldt led 21-19 on the strength of its offensive rebounding.
“Against a bigger and more physical team, the key to success is to make stops defensively and get the rebound,” Cannady said. “In the first quarter we made stops, but gave up nine offensive rebounds.”
Jordan Horstick led the Vikings with 17 points.
Central Heights plays 5:30 p.m. today in the third-place game.
Central Heights (39) — Burkdoll 9, Beckwith 2, Horstick 17, Erhart 8, Hendron 3.
Humboldt (47) — McNutt 16, Murrow 10, Whitcomb 2, Johnson 4, Thornbrough 15.
