Leading by a bucket at halftime, the No. 1-seeded Bulldogs widened their lead to 10 points by the end of the third quarter and held off a late charge by Girard to seal the win and earn a spot in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. today against host team Fort Scott, the No. 7 seed.
“Both teams were kind of nervous and got off to a slow start,” Anderson County coach Steve Lyon said. “We missed some easy shots in the first half, but we relaxed a little bit in the second half and starting putting some shots in.”
Drew Mechnig and Spencer Walter each scored 10 points to round out Anderson County’s double-figure scorers. The Bulldogs improved to 16-6 on the season.
“It will be a tough game against Fort Scott,” Lyon said. “They will have a lot of fans there at their home court. It should be a good game.”
Zach Hilliard scored nine points and Jack Rickabaugh and Steve Dial each scored six points for the Bulldogs. Tanner Lickteig scored two points to round out the team’s scoring.
