Ottawa High School is 6-2 versus regional foes and has won three straight games, including sweeping Paola Tuesday in Paola.
“It will be an advantage of having it on our home field,” Ottawa coach Shawn Herrmann said.
Ottawa (10-10) is the fourth seed and plays 4 p.m. Monday in a play-in game against No. 5 Louisburg (5-13).
“We are getting hot at the right time,” Herrmann said. “It is not how you start, but how you finish. We have to win three games. We are up to the challenge. Louisburg played us tough the last time. We have the guys that can do it.”
The winner plays 6:30 p.m. Monday against top-seeded Baldwin (13-5).
Ottawa topped second-ranked Paola, 3-2 and 11-8.
“That is the best we have played all season,” Herrmann said. “Sam and Nathan pitched great. We had key hits when we had to.”
Nathan Roth went 6 2/3 in the nightcap and Dalton Weidl got the final out.
Blaine Ray nailed a three-run home run. Yancey smashed a two-run triple. Tyler Smith scored three runs.
