Michael Civitate is transferring from Kansas City Kansas Community College. AJ Govert played golf for Greeley County High School.
“Michael brings veteran experience and a great golf demeanor to this year’s class,” Ottawa coach Wendell Smith said. “When you get to know Michael, you find that he is very calm, cool and collected. He does not get too rattled and has emotional stability that is essential to be a successful golfer. We are going to be lucky to have him the next two years.”
Civitate was an all-conference honorable mention performer for Kansas City, helping his team to a sixth place finish in the 2013 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference championship.
“As an all-conference golfer at KCK, Michael has proven himself on the course,” Smith said. “I think he will be a consistent performer for us. Michael is a solid student and has a good work ethic that will help him move into a leadership role for our program.”
Civitate plans to major in business.
Govert was an all-around athlete at Greeley. He played golf and basketball for four years, football for three years and one year in cross-country.
This past fall, he led the cross-country team to 1A state championship. Govert was a four-time state qualifier in golf course with his best finish coming his senior season tying for first out of 84 golfers. He also was a member of the state championship basketball team in 2011.
“AJ made significant improvements to his game each year of high school and tied for first place at the state tournament his senior year. “I really like that AJ experienced team championships in 2011 (state basketball) and 2012 (state cross country).
“AJ is a well-rounded kid and he knows how to balance multiple sports/activities and strong academics. I look forward to AJ being able to focus on golf at OU and I think he will thrive here.”
Govert plans to major in mathematics.
