Ferguson finished with a 195-4 throw, just missing the final eight cut for the finals.
The Wichita State University signee was in his second meet tossing the bigger discus (1.75kg).
He won a spot on the U.S men’s team by winning the national championship with a toss of 201 feet in early July. He became just the fifth high schooler to eclipse the 200-foot barrier.
Ferguson won state in the shot put and discus with meet record performances in each event. He sits No. 2 all-time in Kansas in both events.
University of Kansas sophomore Mitchell Cooper, competing for Australia, finished sixth with a personal-best throw of 202-8.
