The Lady Braves aggressive play in the first half had them outshooting Central Methodist University 10-5 and having a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
Ottawa struck first in 43rd minute on a penalty kick by Morgan Trupp.
Jasmine Robledo was fouled in the box and Trupp put the ball past the Central Methodist goalkeeper.
Ottawa continued to attack the Central Methodist defense but was could not get that second goal in the final period of play.
The Lady Eagles had their opportunities against the Lady Brave defense but Ottawa goalkeeper Samantha Gitmed came up with the saves.
The Lady Braves had a 17-12 lead in shots for the game and a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Gitmed tallied five saves.
Ottawa (3-4-0) plays 5 p.m. Tuesday at home against nationally-ranked Baker University.
The Braves soccer team rallied in the second half, but came up short in a 4-3 loss to Central Methodist.
Central Methodist struck first with a goal by Erwin Sanchez, Jr. off of a pass from Ricardo Valsien at the 5:11 mark in the first half.
The Eagles increased their lead on the Braves to 2-0 in the 14th minute on a goal by Guilherme Frota. Daniel Vieira had the assist.
Ottawa cut into the deficit at the 18:19 mark. Jacob Martin served up a ball to Zack Hanks, who put the ball past the Central Methodist goalkeeper and Ottawa trailed 2-1.
Central Methodist got that goal back in the 22nd minute on a goal by Frota off of a pass by Valsien. The goal gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead at the half on the Braves.
He scored off of a pass by Andres Perez and cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Eagles put up an insurance goal in the 62nd minute to make the score 4-2.
Ottawa’s Kyler Grimes scored at the 66:49 mark from a pass by Sean Hammond to make it 4-3.
Ottawa had a few opportunities to tie the game but was not able to get closer.
The Eagles had a 20-9 advantage in shots and a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. Ottawa keeper Drinnan Sante had eight saves.
Hanks led Ottawa with three shots, two of them on goal.
The Braves (2-4-0) play 1 p.m. today at home against Waldorf College.
