The game was close throughout with Ottawa taking 38-37 lead at the half. The Braves pulled away in the second half.
Ottawa had four players in double-digit scoring led by Kameron Lindsay’s 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the floor.
Julian Rose was right behind him with 13 points. Adam Hasty and Logan Bullinger both scored 10 points apiece. Rose was 6-for-10 from the field.
In his first collegiate game, Bullinger went 3-for-6 from the floor and had a team-high seven rebounds. Hasty led the Braves with six assists and four steals.
Freshman Alex Hasty had six points and six rebounds in his college debut.
Ottawa shot 42 percent from the field (26-61) and hit six treys. The Royals were held to 30.4 percent from the field (21-69). Grace had a 21-18 advantage in points off turnovers. Ottawa finished with 21 turnovers and Royals had 23.
The Braves (1-0) play 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the home opener versus NAIA Division I MidAmerica Nazarene University in Wilson Field House.
