Ottawa (12-6-1) plays 7:30 p.m. Friday against second-seeded Bethany at Hummer Park in Topeka. The championship match will be 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The first-round match was a scoreless in the first half. Ottawa had a 17-3 lead in shots and a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Ottawa scored the only goal in the 49th minute. Angelica Tapia’s pass found Lauren Whitney open 5 yards in front of the goal. Whitney put the ball past Sterling keeper Kylie Dean.
The Lady Braves had a 29-4 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.
It was a tough way to end the season Friday for the Ottawa men’s squad. Ottawa fell 2-1 in overtime to Bethany in the KCAC quarterfinals.
Ottawa finished fifth in the KCAC after being picked sixth in the preseason coaches poll.
Bethany took the early lead on the Braves just 58 seconds into the contest. Luis Fernando found the back of net.
The Braves tied the contest in the 28th minute on a goal by Sean Hammond.
The Swedes had a 17-10 lead in shots and a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal. Kyler Grimes led Ottawa in shot attempts with four, three of them being on goal.
The Braves end the season at 5-10-4.
