Asbury improved to 6-1.
“Dustin had a great day,” Central Heights coach Randy Hinderliter said. “I knew that he didn’t have the kind of season he wanted to last year and we had a long talk. After the conversation, Dustin has re-focused himself.”
J.R. Dunnivan (170) posted a 2-2 mark to finish fourth. Kaleb Grimsley (160) was sixth after going 2-3. Eli Davis (220) was seventh after posting a 2-2 record.
Jake Green (285) was seventh after going 2-3. Jacob Anderson (220) went 2-3 to finish eighth.
“J.R. Dunnivan also had a good weekend,” Hinderliter said. “He placed in his first tournament and it bodes well for this season. Kaleb Grimsley was a whisker away from being in the finals. In the semifinals, he lost in the last five seconds to the eventual champ of the bracket.”
Hinderliter said the Mission Valley tourney is a good test for the Vikings.
“Mission Valley is a good early season tourney for us,” Hinderliter said. “The 16-man brackets were nearly full and with competitors from 3A thru 6A.”
