On August 15, 1942, Elsie was united in marriage to Earl J. Pope at Paola. They made their home in rural Paola until 1946 when they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. They then returned to Kansas in 1950 making their home in Ottawa.
Elsie was the first baby baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Paola, and she was an active member of Faith Lutheran, Ottawa for many years until her health became a problem. In 1960, she went to work for Mode-O-Day Sewing factory, and worked until the plant closed. She then worked for the H.D. Lee Co. until its plant closed. She served as a 4-H sewing leader, Zig Zag Club member, volunteered for the Red Cross and delivered Meals on Wheels. Elsie in her time made many prom dresses and wedding dresses for her daughters and grand-daughters. She also made many sculpted fabric dolls, and gave them away for a very small fee as she wanted every little girl to be able to have their own doll.
