LAWRENCE — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a possible murder-suicide that left three people dead, according to a news release.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered a woman, man and a three-year-old girl dead Sunday afternoon, the release said. The deputies responded to a call 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of E900 Road and discovered a 36-year-old woman had been shot several times in the residence’s driveway. The woman died at the scene, the release said.

Law enforcement later located the woman’s vehicle in a parking area of the Baker Wetlands. The child and a 41-year-old man were found dead in the wetlands not far from the vehicle, the report said.

The man, a Douglas County resident, and the woman, a Missouri resident, had previously been in a relationship, the release said. The child, also from Missouri, is the daughter of the man and the woman, according to the release.

It is believed the man shot and killed the woman, the release said. After shooting the woman, it is believed the man drove to the Baker Wetlands in the woman’s vehicle where he then took the life of his daughter before taking his own life, according to the release.

The cause of death of the child and the man and the official identifications of the three people will not be known until autopsies have been completed, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office believes no one else is involved in the three deaths, the release said.
