BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — The Bethel College women’s basketball team got off to a strong start, but Oklahoma Wesleyan made a run in the second half to claim a 63-57 win over the Threshers Wednesday night in KCAC play at Bartlesville.

The Threshers led 17-15 after the first quarter. A Riley Schmieder shot at the halftime buzzer put the Threshers up 33-27 at the half.

Leading 39-36 in the third quarter, Bethel gave up a 9-0 run. Bethel trailed 50-47 at the end of the third quarter.

Downy by six early in the fourth quarter, Bethel came back to tie the game 55-55 on a Karlie Schroeder putback with 6:10 to play. The Eagles then scored the next six points and held off Bethel the rest of the way.

Dania Goodwin led OWU with 17 points, followed by Tiffany Rieger with 15.

Bethel was led by Abby Schmidt with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kelsey Potter came off the bench to score 11.

Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 14-5, 8-3 in KCAC play. The Eagles move into a three-way tie for second in the conference with Tabor and Sterling. All three teams are a game behind Friends.

Bethel drops to 6-13, 2-9 at the midpoint of the KCAC season. The Threshers are three games behind Saint Mary for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Bethel begins the second half of KCAC play at 5 p.m. Saturday at home against Bethany. The Swedes are 10-8, 6-4 in KCAC play, after a 63-54 loss at home to Southwestern. Bethel fell to Bethany 66-51 in mid November.
