After a final hurdle was crossed this week, It appears Arby’s is coming to Ottawa. Representatives of U.S. Beef, the parent company for Arby’s and the developer of the new Holiday Inn Express and Suites agreed to an access lane that will benefit the restaurant.
James Oltman, Franklin County Development Council (FCDC) executive director, hesitated to say it was a done deal but said work will continue to make it happen.
“We got over the final major hurdle this week,” Oltman said. “We have been working with them for almost a year and a half and it appears everything else should be resolved.”
Oltman said the development of a new hotel created a site that was attractive to a restaurant. He said one of the things that helped sell the hotel developers on Ottawa was the chance to redevelop the economic area around the hotel site. After reaching out to several companies, he said Arby’s seemed to be the best fit.
The FCDC worked as a middle man for the two groups until a meeting was arranged about seven months later.
Oltman said his understanding is that Arby’s wants to open later this year, just ahead of the opening of the new Holiday Inn Express.
