1 STORM SPOTTER TALK — Tornado and severe weather season are here. Franklin County Emergency Management has partnered with meteorologists from the National Weather Service office in Topeka to offer a storm spotter class, presenting information that will help “prepare storm spotters and weather enthusiasts” this spring. The presentation will take place 7 p.m. today at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium, 301 S. Hickory St., Ottawa. Audience members will learn in-depth about severe weather, types of storms and storm features, as well as weather safety and how to recognize a storm’s potential severity. The presentation is estimated to run about two hours and is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

2 FIRE STATION FUN — Bring the kids out to meet Curious George and step into the life of a firefighter 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ottawa Fire Department, 720 W. 2nd St., Ottawa. Tour where firefighters, eat, sleep and work when they’re not out fighting fires, and listen to a reading of “Curious George and the Firefighters.” Enter the kids in a giveaway for a ride to school on a fire truck, as well as four tickets to see “Curious George and the Meatball” later this month at Ottawa Memorial Auditorium. This event is free and open to public, and is sponsored by Ottawa Library. All ages are welcome.

3 MATTRESS SALE — Ottawa High School is hosting its annual mattress fundraiser 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at OHS, 1120 S. Ash St., Ottawa. The one-day sale will help raise money for the Ottawa school district music programs. More than 28 brand-name floor models will be on display. According to the event’s Facebook page, all beds purchased are brand new, made to order and have factory warranties.
