Two separate structure fires on Tuesday are being investigated as arson by the Ottawa Fire and Police departments and the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Early Tuesday morning, the Ottawa Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 601 S. Burroughs St., lot 65. The fire department along with the Ottawa Police Department and Franklin County EMS assisted at the scene. Three occupants were in the structure at the time of the fire and were able to exit unharmed. The mobile home where the fire started and its contents were a total loss. In addition, four adjacent homes were damaged by the fire which is under investigation. A estimate of the total loss was unavailable.

Tuesday morning at around 10 a.m., the Ottawa Fire and Police departments responded to a call at Sun Studio Tanning Salon, 119 S. Main St. Alesha Buchanan, 31, Ottawa, was arrested by officers after she left the business and was found walking nearby. Buchanan was charged with aggravated arson in connection with the Sun Studio fire. Sun Studio was open for business on Wednesday.

According to Assistant Police Chief Adam Weingartner, the two cases of arson are connected and being investigated jointly by the Ottawa Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office.
