Valorie Garcia was appointed to the vacant seat on the Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 Board of Education.

The board voted without dissent Monday. She was the only finalist for the job, applying after Jessica Engelland resigned the District 3-6/Position 3 seat and the district invited applications. Asked to identify the top three issues for USD 309, Garcia listed: Building and education improvements, setting goals with children and fostering achievement of those goals, and parent participation in the child’s education.

Garcia is the accounts payable clerk in the Reno County Clerk’s office. She and husband David Garcia have two sons attending Nickerson High School.

The term on the board will expire in January 2020.
