City of Ottawa Public Works Department crews will collect only limbs from curbs, starting Monday.
This collection will not include items such as lumber, furniture, and tires, city officials said. There will be a citywide clean-up on June 22-23 for disposal of those type of items.
To make collection easier and to limit possible damage to yards, stack the limbs parallel “the direction of the curb” and close to the street curb. Collections cannot be made in alleys due to space limitations.
The collection was prompted by Monday’s storm that damaged trees and caused power outages across the community. Ottawa’s National Weather Service observation post recorded winds in excess of 70 mph.
In the wake of the storm, the city also has a free limb collection site at the intersection of North Cherry Street and Enterprise Road for citizens to haul their own brush/limbs. Other items should not be dumped at this site, city officials said. A sign is posted at the dump site area.
