If you enjoy beer, wine and brats, the Wellsville Historical Society’s fundraiser is where you need to be.
The “Best of the Wurst” event will take place July 14 beginning 6 p.m. at Milestone, 506 Main St., Wellsville. The money raised will go toward phase two of the project to move the Wellsville Historical Museum to a new home.
“The Historical Society purchased what was the first brick building in Wellsville and it was also the first bank,” Historical Society fundraiser committee member Bill Lytle said. “It’s on the national historic register and we are doing a restoration project on it.”
Lytle, also Wellsville’s mayor, said the project costs will total around $500,000 and funding has already been received from the Kansas Historical Society. Phase one of the project took care of the outside of the building and phase two will be to complete the inside and allow the museum to be moved to the building.
Lytle said this is the first large fundraiser the group has planned. Tickets for the event are $20 for an individual or $30 for a couple. Tickets go on sale this week. Live music will be provided by Lily Brown. An auction is planned along with a 50/50 raffle.
The star of the show will be the food and drinks. In addition to bratwurst, a beer garden is planned along with wine tasting from the local White Tail Run Winery. There will be samplings of vodka from Buck-U Distillery and everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a souvenir glass.
“It’s a two-fold thing,” Lytle said. “It’s going to hopefully be a good fundraiser but also raise awareness that we are trying to get this building restored. Once it’s restored we hope it will spruce up Main Street and help promote the town.”
