Billie Joyce (Kaze) Trahin passed away Tuesday, July 10th at her residence in Baxter Springs, Kan. She was born June 11th, 1939 in Commerce, Okla. to J.W. and Vivian (Hatley) Kaze.

Billie grew up and attended schools in Miami, Okla. She enjoyed singing and appearing in plays and worked in a music store prior to marriage. After raising her children, she went back to college and earned degrees in both nursing (RN) and history. She never stopped learning.

She was united in marriage to Dwight (Bud) Trahin in 1960, and they moved to Baxter Springs, Kan. in 1962. They raised six children together. Dwight passed away in 1993, and Billie married Arthur Skarda in 1996. He preceded her in death in 2016.

Billie was a voracious reader and loved books of all kinds. She formerly served on the board of the Johnston Public Library. She was a member for many years of sorority Beta Sigma Phi, and also volunteered at the Baxter Springs Museum. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Baxter. She had many hobbies, which included sewing, scrap booking, genealogy, photography, and she especially loved to travel, and had visited many countries. She had a quick wit, and a sharp intellect to match--and she loved watching Jeopardy.

Billie is survived by her brother, Woodrow Kaze; six children and their spouses: Dwight Trahin (Catherine), Kevin Trahin (Debi), Paige Kraft, Richard Trahin (Julie), Erinn Harper (David) and Whitney-Anne Trahin; twelve grandchildren: Julia Tschappat, Nathan Harper, Lisel Kraft, Melissa Trahin, Jordan Trahin, Alexandra Kraft, Jaden Trahin, Kimberly Maute, Sydney Trahin Trey Trahin, Abbey Trahin, and Doug Harper. She also had six great grandchildren. Our unofficial “other” sibling was her dog, Jimmy. We know you loved him best, mom!

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2018 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Johnston Public Library in memory of Billie in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at
