Today's installment of Throwback Thursday takes us to the east side of the 500 block of North Main Street. This block in Hutchinson originally had two story residential homes populating it.
By 1903, physician and surgeon, H.G. Welsh, who lived next door, had taken the home at 514 N. Main and turned it into the "Welsh Hospital." The first photo showed that hospital in 1904. In 1918, that hospital ended, and the structure turned into a series of differently owned rooming houses.
In 1927, W. C. Shaw constructed this building and moved his City Transfer & Storage Co. there from 19 E. First. This business continued there until 1958 when Delbert Eurton purchased it. It closed in 1963, and Florence McCune started the Hutchinson Paper Co.
The second photo shows the building divided up into three businesses then. Hutchinson Paper Co. was viable at that location until 1994. In 1995, Don McConnaughy bought the building and ran Don's Plumbing out of there, with his sons involved in the business later.
In 2016, Steven Peterman established the Salt City Brewery at 514 N. Main, and it has has been growing ever since.
