I have long understood that the ability to cast a vote in American elections was sacrosanct. I am from Texas and remember well how “Poll Taxes” were used to suppress the votes and voices of certain racial groups. Some form of voter suppression was common in a host of other states and was not legally ruled unconstitutional until 1966. We have come full circle as in 2018, we have a secretary of state, Kris Kobach, who is advocating and, in some cases implementing, voter suppression policies and procedures.

If you face any problems at the polls this election, please call the ACLU Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE. Lawyers will help in whatever way they can and document what voting has become in Kansas. Especially if it has become anything other than sacrosanct at your polling place.
