Emporia liquor stores can sell on Sundays after residents there supported the ballot question Tuesday.

City leaders voted to allow Sunday sales in April, but the ordinance was blocked by a petition and put up for a public vote. The measure carried more then 42 percent of the vote, the Emporia Gazette reported.

Ellen Plumb's City Bookstore owner Marcia Lawrence told the paper she supported Sunday liquor sales.

"I think liquor sales on Sunday are no different than liquor sales on any other day," she said. "If the mall is open, why should the liquor store not be open?"
