City crews worked quickly around 11:30 a.m. Thursday to fire up the city-owned back up generator when power went out in the city’s downtown corridor.
Dennis Tharp, city utilities director, said KCPL lost a transformer at the south sub-station located on Eisenhower Road. He said when that happened the city’s Second Street sub-station was knocked out.
“Everything on that second street sub-station was out for about 10 minutes,” he said. “We fired up our generators and covered all of that until KCPL came back on in probably an hour-and-a-half later. We had everybody back on in about 10 minutes.”
