A 4-year-old girl was turned over to a family member last week after being found riding in a vehicle with a 56-year-old Topeka man who possessed methamphetamine and marijuana, police said.

The driver, Clarence Jackson, was booked into the Shawnee County Jail early Thursday evening in connection with crimes that included aggravated child endangerment, possessing a narcotic drug with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school and driving on a suspended license, according to jail records. He was no longer an inmate in the jail on Tuesday.

The child endangerment count stemmed from Jackson's having the toxic drug methamphetamine in the presence of the 4-year-old, said Capt. Andrew Beightel of the Topeka Police Department.

He said police stopped a vehicle driven by Jackson, who had a suspended license, at S.W. 10th and Fillmore.
