Three West Franklin High School students competed in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA} National Leadership Conference, June 28-July 1, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sophomore Lacey Sutton and senior Ryan Haner qualified for the finals in entrepreneurship and finished fifth. Freshman Virginia Wright did not advance to the finals in her event.
Connie Wadkins, West Franklin FBLA advisor, said Sutton and Haner took an objective test and placed in the top 15 to advance to the presentation stage. In the presentation phase, the couple was given a scenario and had 20 minutes to prepare. They had to read the scenario and role play in front of the judges, she said.
“They had to answer questions of the judges as well,” Wadkins said. “They had to study. They were up against some of the brightest kids in the nation.”
Wadkins said the Falcon trio placed in the state competition in late March to qualify for nationals.
