to finals

ELBING — The Berean Academy boys’ soccer team advanced to the Class 4-3-2-1A regional finals after a 6-1 win over Independence Monday in Elbing.

Scoring details were not reported.

Berean is 8-8-1 and takes on Buhler at 6 p.m. Thursday in Buhler.

The Crusaders are 12-2-2 after a 10-0 semifinal win over Circle.

MOORE, Okla. — The Bethel College women’s basketball team opened the season with a 78-65 win over Randall University Tuesday night in Moore.

Bethel led 14-13 after the first quarter and 36-34 at the half. The Threshers outscored Randall 23-16 in the third quarter to lead by nine and continued to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Bethel outscored the Saints 24-9 from 3-point range.

Freshman Josie Calzonnetti scored 12 points in her debut. Senior Karlie Schroeder scored 12 points off the bench. Abby Schmidt scored 10 points with 12 rebounds. Halstead grad Kayla Newman made her debut with 10 points, hitting four of four from the field off the bench.

Randall, 0-2, was led by Aaliyah Austin and Kenzie Ezekiel with 14 points each. Hayli Hoffman scored 10 points.

Bethel returns home at 6 p.m. Monday to host Nebraska Christian.

The Bethel College volleyball team fell to Kansas Wesleyan in three sets Tuesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym.

Bethel fell 25-14, 25-13, 25-20.

Kourtney Cunningham led the Coyote offense with 10 kills. Taylor Dodge set 17 assists. Morgan Beougher had 16 digs. Maddy Schmidt downed seven blocks, followed by Shaelyn Martin with six and Cunningham with five.

Nicole Klusener led Bethel with nine kills. Avery Myatt set 15 assists, followed by Kaylee VanderVeen with 13. Rachel Bustillos had 17 digs.

Bethel had 28 hitting errors to six for the Coyotes.

Kansas Wesleyan is 23-6, 8-1 in KCAC play. The Coyotes are tied for second in the conference, one half match behind McPherson. Bethel falls to 6-17, 3-6 in KCAC play. The Threshers are tied with Oklahoma Wesleyan for eighth with three matches to play in conference. The top eight teams advance to the conference post-season tournament.

Bethel hosts rival Tabor at 7 p.m. Friday at Thresher Gym.
