John Baker, 88, of Mayfield, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 in Wichita. He was born the son of Chester and Alta (Beebe) Baker on Sunday, July 27, 1930 in Argonia. On September 18, 1950, John and Vera M. (Gaskill) were united in marriage in Wellington. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. Early on John worked for National Furniture Company and APCO; however, he spent many years manufacturing travel trailers in Wellington at Mayflower and other companies. Some of his favorite times were spent at the tractor pulls, where he was a fixture for many years. John also went to as many of his grandbabies events as he could and will be especially missed at the annual tournaments in Corbin and Mayfield. It was at these events that he was able to share stories and laughs with his many friends and his loving family. Survivors include his son, Johnny Wayne Baker (Gayla) of Perth; son, Jerry Dean Baker of Topeka, daughters: Judith Maxine Tilson (Jon) of Norwich, Joyce Ann Metheny (Jeff) of Mulvane, Jamie Sue Metzen (Steven) of Mayfield, Jean Marie Thompson (Jay) of Wellington, Jane Louise Chitwood (Jim) of Norwich; sister, Viola Griffin of Gossel, grandchildren: Celena, Tiarra, Jason, Misty, Brent, Jeff, Lisa, DJ, Ashley, Isabella, Garett, Jordan, Jenny, Julia and Jed; his many great-grandbabies and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings: Ralph, Edith, Gracie, Ruby, Stella, Hazel, Charles, Delbert, Chet and a baby brother. A viewing and visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m, Friday, January 18, 2019. The family will be present to receive and greet guests at this time. A private interment will be held at a later date in the Osborne Cemetery, Mayfield.
