Melissa Theel has been promoted to Administrative Supervisor from Field Appraiser in the Saline County Appraiser's Office. She has served the county for four years. Her responsibilities are plan, schedule, assign and supervise all clerical functions of the office, conduct interviews and hire/dismiss clerical staff, train new employees in office policies and procedures, review and evaluate employee performance.


Andrew Pellant has been promoted to Pre-Trail Program Coordinator from Intensive Supervision Officer in the Saline County Community Corrections department. He has served the county two years. Pellant's responsibilities are planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring the activities involved in the development of Pre-Trial Services Program as well as overseeing the operational and day-to-day activities to include training, working with treatment providers and development of evaluation and sustainable plan.


TOPEKA — District Judge Patrick Thompson of the 28th Judicial District has been appointed to sit with the Kansas Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in one case on the court's Jan. 30 docket.

After hearing oral arguments, Thompson will join Supreme Court justices in their deliberations and decision drafting.

Thompson has been a judge since January 2008. He hears cases in the 28th Judicial District, which is composed of Saline and Ottawa counties.


MANHATTAN — Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce has hired Jason Smith as its new president and chief executive officer. He will start in the position in March.

Smith most recently had worked since August 2015 at Norman (Okla.) Economic Development Coalition. NEDC is a joint effort of Oklahoma University, City of Norman, Moore Norman Technology Center and Norman Chamber of Commerce.
