Kathy Ann Brown, 63, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, in Overland Park, Kansas.

She was born Sept. 10, 1953, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Joe Leonard McAuley and Edith May (Elder) McAuley. Shirley grew up in Ottawa, also living for a time in South Dakota.

Kathy was a lifelong homemaker, while also working for four years at the Franklin County Daycare in Ottawa. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Ottawa.

She enjoyed many crafts during her life. Mostly Kathy loved to help people. She had a heart of gold and was very family oriented. She was the main caregiver for her mother for several years. She was well known in the family to be the babysitter of all the children. If any nephew or niece or cousin needed to be watched Kathy was always available to help care for the children. She was a quiet person, but her actions spoke volumes. Her love for her family was loud and clear.

On June 1, 1974, Kathy was united in marriage with Kirt Brown at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They later divorced.

Kathy is survived by her son Kenny Brown and his wife Stacy of Ottawa; mother, Edith May (Elder) McAuley, Ottawa; six siblings, Leonard “Buster” McAuley of Ottawa, Carolyn May Randall of Ottawa, Darlene Kay Heflin of Marysville, Missouri, Darrell Landon McAuley of Augusta, Kansas, Donna June Humphrey of Ottawa, Linda Sure Leatherberry of Ottawa; and a grandson Kain Edward Brown of Williamsburg.

She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Kevin E. Brown.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa.
