Luzella Mae Evel, 80, Utica, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born July 27, 1937, in Orion to James and Florence (Siemers) Smith.

She married Vernon (Evel) on Aug. 31, 1958, in Wichita. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 2016.

Survivors include a son, James Bryan Evel, Utica; two daughters, Lorene Koch and husband, Larry, and Patricia Lynn Hess and husband, Arnie, all of Ransom; four brothers, Bill Smith and wife, Jan, Gerald Smith, Charles Smith and wife, LaVerne, all of Wichita, and Keith Smith and wife, Terry, Wellington, N.C.; three sisters, Bertha Klausmeyer, Wichita, Vicky Sponsel and husband, Ernie, Schulte, and Gaylene True and husband, Rick, Wichita; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Evel; and a sister-in-law, Cathy Smith.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Utica; burial in Utica Cemetery.

Friends can call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church of Utica, or The National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of the funeral home.
