John Edward Wise, 75, Of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas,

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at the funeral home. John was born in Fort Smith, Ark., Jan. 24, 1943, the son of Frank Wise and Leona (Ermey) Wise. John moved with his family as a young man to Ottawa, and graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1962. He then graduated from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kan.

John was owner and operator of Wise Construction in Ottawa for over 40 years until his retirement in 2000. He loved his job, whether he was working on a remodel project or framing a new home, John was always excited to provide someone with a new home to enjoy.

On July 29, 1977, John was united in marriage to Sharon Whitacre. They shared 23 years of loving marriage until Sharon passed away in 2000.

John was an original member and past president of the Over the Road Gang Car Club. He was also a member of Mopars Unlimited. He loved his cars and Harley’s, especially restoring classic cars. He was a hands on guy always ready to repair whatever needed his help. He loved to fish and enjoyed his time outside or in his shop. He was a mentor to many mechanics in the area especially with his knowledge of Mopar engines. Most important to John was his family which he loved and cared for dearly.

He is survived by three children, Andrea Gladson and her husband, Rob, Olathe, Kansas; Adam Wise, Ottawa; Tim Tucker and his wife, Joni, Garnett, Kansas; two sisters, Alice Mundy and her husband, Terry; Janice Stoltnow and her husband, Keith; eight grandchildren, Kelsey, Ariel, Alex, Avery, Carissa, Tiffany, Aaron, Colton; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also leaving behind his beloved dog, Sheba, that he affectionately called “Wiener.”

John is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Wise, his parents, and a son, Trever Tucker.
