John Lovgren, 88, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, at Rock Creek of Ottawa.

At John’s request there will be no service, but a celebration of his life is planned for a later date.

John was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Highland Park, Ill., the son of Milo Ray Sr. and Viola (Sydness) Lovgren. Milo Sr. was tragically killed in an airplane crash just weeks before John’s birth and the family subsequently moved to Rochester, Minn.

He served in the United States Army for two years, and afterwards, attended aircraft and engine school. Upon graduation, he earned a position with TWA as a mechanic. However, his hard work and determination resulted in him working his way to becoming a pilot, and then a captain, who flew the big ones.

John deeply loved his family and enjoyed many hobbies including computers, photography and woodworking, but was most passionate and skilled at golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milo Lovgren; and sister, Mary Jane Lebeck.

He is survived by three children from his first marriage to Elaine Funk; Jon Lovgren and fiance, Laura, Judy (Roy) Dunlap and Barbara (Karl) Noellsch; and his wife of 58 years, Sandra Foote Lovgren, with whom he had one child, Carrie (Bruce) Witt. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests no flowers, but memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on John’s Tribute Wall at www.dengelmortuary.com.
