Bertha Alice Morgan, age 99, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away October 24, 2019 at Wellsville Retirement Community, Wellsville, KS. She was born December 12, 1919 in Wallace, KS, the daughter of Ira Thompson and Mabel (Burruess) Thompson. She moved to Ottawa with her family as a child and graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939.
She worked for H.D. Lee Factory and later King Radio. She also helped her husband on the farm and in her youth was a waitress at the North American Hotel. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was also a Silverleaf 4-H Leader and, since she was an avid quilter, a member of the Ottawa Quilters Guild.
Bertha married Emory Morgan on July 27, 1951 at First Baptist Church. They shared over 46 years of loving marriage until Emory’s passing in 1997.
She is survived by three daughters, Pat Abersold, Lawrence, KS, Janice Morgan, Box Elder, South Dakota, and Carolyn Rubick, Williamsburg, KS; three sons, Lowell Morgan, Tuscon, Arizona, Doyle Morgan, Ottawa, KS, and Linn Morgan, Milledgeville, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Bertha is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Carol Thompson, Fern Johnson, and Maxine Peed; and two brothers, Leroy Thompson and Carl Thompson.
The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS. Graveside memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
