Joseph Paul Irelan, 20, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, near Lawrence, Kan.
He was born Sept. 8, 1999, the son of Paul and Mary Jo King Irelan, of Erie.
He was a 2017 graduate of Erie High School. Before moving to Erie, he attended school in Las Vegas, Nev. After graduation, he attended Neosho County Community College before enrolling at Ottawa University, where he was a student at the time of his death. Joseph was an outstanding student with exceptional math skills and scored 35 on his ACT test. He was a member of the Erie High School Chess Club as well as being an avid player of video games with his friends.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: grandmother, Mary Lou Grady King; brothers, David Forsyth and wife, Catherine, of Erie, George Irelan and wife, Kim, of Leavenworth, Kan., Tim Merrill and wife, Tracy, of Seattle, Wash., Bill Irelan and wife, Tracy, of Las Vegas, Nev.; plus three nephews and four nieces; an uncle, Alan King and wife, Tracy, of Fort Scott, Kan., and an aunt, Janice King, of Overland Park, Kan.
Memorial services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Fr. David Michael Htun officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the George L.
