WF girls roll to third straight victory

POMONA — The West Franklin High School girls are on a roll. The Falcons won their third straight game with a 37-27 win Tuesday over Central Heights in Pomona.

West Franklin outscored Central Heights 11-2 in the fourth quarter.

POMONA — The West Franklin High School girls are on a roll. The Falcons won their third straight game with a 37-27 win Tuesday over Central Heights in Pomona.

West Franklin outscored Central Heights 11-2 in the fourth quarter.

“It was a dogfight,” West Franklin coach Kyle Conley said. “We had a lot of intensity on the defensive end. It was a great team effort. The teammates picked each other up. Mentally we were strong. We finished strong.”

Central Heights coach Scott Lane said, “We played pretty good defense. We just struggled to consistently hit shots. We have got to be more patient offensively. The talent and the effort is here we just have to put it together and I have confidence we will very soon.”

Bailey Shaffer paced the Falcons with 12 points. Whitney Kraus had 14 for the Vikings.

West Franklin (6-8) plays Tuesday at Hartford. Central Heights plays Friday at home against Jayhawk-Linn.

West Franklin (37) — Reed 5, Steele 3, Shaffer 12, Whittington 3, Flory 5, Yelland 4, Ryan 5.

Spring Hill 54, Wellsville 32

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville girls opened the Top Gun Tournament Tuesday with a 54-32 loss to Spring Hill.

The Eagles play Thursday against Kansas City Christian.

Spring Hill (54) — Smith 10, Cluck 3, Nevius 2, Weaver 4, VanZant 6, Mikesell 11, Baker 18.

Wellsville (32) — Wright 2, Geist 7, Newhouse 5, Kayhill 4, Graniewski 8, Patton 6.
