WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville High School girls closed out a nine-point lead with three minutes remaining Friday to top Central Heights 38-36 in Wellsville.

Wellsville girls coach Brock Campbell said the Eagles played well in a low-scoring affair.

“We had a little trouble scoring, but we stepped up defensively,” Campbell said.

Emily Newhouse had 12 points for the Eagles and Ashley Sparks had 10.

“The one who stepped up in the fourth quarter was [Moriah] Kayhill,” Campbell said. “She hit three free throws that sealed it.”

Viking coach Scott Lane said his team struggled to put a complete game together on the road.

“Our on ball and help side defense was great but our blocking out was sub par tonight,” Lane said. “We allowed them too many second chance opportunities. The effort the ladies should was fantastic, but we just struggled to consistently get the ball in the hole.”

Central Heights plays Monday at home against Jayhawk-Linn.

Wellsville stays home Tuesday to play Anderson County.

“We’ve already played them twice,” Campbell said. “A win on Tuesday will be good for us.”

Wellsville (38) — Newhouse 12, Sparks 10, Graniewski 7, Geist 3, Kayhill 3, Patton 3.

Central Heights (36) — Markley 16, Meyer 8, Erhart 5, Kraus 5, Hayward 2.

Lebo 36, West Franklin 35
