Ferguson records third-best mark

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Ottawa High School senior Kord Ferguson is ripping through the state record book. Ferguson is ranked third all-time in Kansas in the shot put after his performance Friday in the Piper Quadrangular in Kansas City, Kan.

Ferguson tossed the shot put 65 feet, 9 inches, which is a school record and a personal best. He eclipsed the old mark of 63-7, which he set a week ago in Dallas, Texas.

Ferguson also won the discus. In all, the Ottawa boys won four events and the girls, two. Aaron Miller won the 800 in two minutes. Zach Hastings took the boys pole vault at 10-3.

Junior Courtney Houston topped the girls pole vault field at 6-9. Dariann Ingram won the high jump at 4-10.

Ottawa competes 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Ottawa Relays.

Javelin — 3, Carswell, 84-11.

Boys

Long jump — 3, A. Lynch, 17-9.5.

Discus — 1, Ferguson, 185-1.

Shot put — 1, Ferguson, 65-9 (school record, No. 3 all-time in Kansas); 2, Wright, 47-10.
