OU baseball, softball split; golfers shine

WICHITA — The Ottawa University softball team Saturday split with No. 24 Friends in Wichita. Ottawa won the opener, 2-0, and fell 7-1 in the nightcap.

Elsa Valenzuela and Lydia Budke led Ottawa with two hits and an RBI each in the opener.

Gabby Markham picked up her sixth victory. She had six strikeouts.

Alyssa Miller and Budke led the Lady Braves with two hits apiece in the second game.

Ottawa (13-14, 3-1) plays 3 p.m. Wednesday at home against Bethel.

Baseball

The Ottawa baseball team exchanged sweeps with McPherson. Ottawa swept the Bulldogs Saturday in Ottawa. It was the first conference wins of the season. Ottawa won 5-1 and 4-3 on Aaron Marshall’s dramatic two-out two-run home run in the seventh inning.

Ottawa fell 12-11 and 10-6 on Sunday.

Jacob Loucks tossed a complete game in Saturday’s opener. It was his fourth win of the season.

Marshall’s home run carried the Braves to the sweep.

The first game Sunday was an offensive explosion. Ottawa led 11-5 after the top of the sixth, but could not hold off the Bulldogs.

Marshall had three hits and a home run, his seventh of the season.

Golf

LAMONI,Iowa — The Ottawa women’s golf team finished third at the Graceland Spring Invitational. The Lady Braves shot a 697. The second round 346 is the second-lowest round total in program history.

Erin Shriver tied for third with a 166. Amy Weilert tied for fifth at 169. Sara Housman tied for 11th (173). Kaitlyn Walker was 39th (192) and Mallory Kleoppel, 44th (195).

The men’s squad finished fifth out of 19 teams at the Bethel Invitational. Ottawa shot a 645, including a 297 in the first round, which was the lowest round in eight years.

Michael Civitate finished fourth with a 152. Hunter Earnhart took 15th (159). Gabe Vlasic was 33rd (165). Austin Blaue was 66th (174) and AJ Govert, 87th (189).

Track

PITTSBURG — The Ottawa track teams competed Saturday in the Pittburg Invitational.
