OU softball looks for late-season push

The Ottawa University softball team started a possible last season push for the runner-up spot in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Saturday with a sweep of Saint Mary in Ottawa.

Ottawa won 3-0 and 12-4. The Lady Braves are 7-5 and one game behind second-place Kansas Wesleyan and Bethany. Ottawa closes the season this week with three doubleheaders.

Ottawa scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to back the pitching of Morgan Beckler in the opener. Beckler picked up her fifth win as she went the distance. She had eight strikeouts

Mikayla Oliphant and Lydia Budke had two hits each.

Ottawa broke open a 6-4 game with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ottawa broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the fourth frame.

Ottawa (20-11) spanked 12 hits in the nightcap. Ottawa had foru players with two hits each.

Morgan Schramek went five innings in the nightcap.

Ottawa plays today at Tabor.
