Wellsville rolls to sweep behind no-hitter

BURLINGAME — The fourth-ranked Wellsville High School baseball team carved out a sweep Thursday over Burlingame in Burlingame.

The Eagles won 7-2 and 16-0 to improve to 13-2. The ranking is from the Kansas Baseball Coaches Association poll in 3A.

Wellsville’s pitching spelled the difference. Junior Jared Klamm tossed a complete game in the opener.

He had 10 strikeouts and moved his season record to 2-1. He lowered his season earned run average to 0.43.

Andy Dougan tossed a no-hitter in the nightcap. It was the second no-hitter of the season for the Eagles. Senior Luke Meyer no-hit Iola earlier this season.

Dougan had six strikeouts and improved to 2-1. He has a season ERA of 1.91.

Seven players had at least three hits in the doubleheader. Five players had at least three RBIs.

Brett Osbern and Mitch Huffman led the Eagles with four RBIs each.

Wellsville has not lost in nearly a month since falling to Baldwin, 10-0.

The Eagles can wrap up an undefeated league title run with two wins Friday in a rescheduled doubleheader at Osawatomie.

Wellsville closes the regular season with three games in the Pioneer League Tournament. The first two will be played Thursday with the title game set for May 12.

Seth Breithaupt: 1-3, solid defense.

Brett Osbern: 3-6, 2 SB, 4 RBIs.

Ethan Mosher: 1-3, RBI.

Lucas Dwyer: turned in 4 defensive gems in the infield.
