WELLSVILLE — The Ottawa Legion A squad has been inconsistent since its 9-0 start. Ottawa swept West Franklin on Tuesday, but was swept by Wellsville on Wednesday in Wellsville.

Ottawa lost 11-4 and 7-2.

“I don’t feel like our team is playing up to our potential on a consistent basis,” Ottawa coach Brian Long said. “We challenged the players to meet and figure that out. We have to be consistent with the things we can control.

“The biggest thing on that point is that to play with energy and enthusiasm. All of us (coaches) have harped on that this season as well as taking advantage of this fading opportunity. It’s time to figure it out and go on a run.”

In the opener, Drew Bones led the offense with a home run and two RBIs. Clayton Evans and Bones pitched, but struggled with command, yielding 11 runs to an experienced Wellsville team.

The defense had four errors.

Bones had two RBIs in the nightcap. Jayden Creach had two hits.

“We’re not happy with the results obviously but we can control that,” Long said.

Ottawa (16-9) plays Tuesday at Topeka.
