Zone 6 adds Iola

The American Legion AA Zone 6 Tournament just got tougher with the addition of two-time defending state champion Iola.

Garnett withdrew from the tourney and Iola was moved from the Burlington Zone to even out the number of teams in each tournament.

Garnett withdrew from the tourney and Iola was moved from the Burlington Zone to even out the number of teams in each tournament.

The Zone tourney starts Tuesday and runs through Saturday at Pomona.

The seeds have been shuffled with Iola being the top seed. Paola moves to No. 2, followed by Ottawa, Wellsville and West Franklin.

The first-round matchups are now as follows: Ottawa (21-10) plays 6 p.m. Tuesday vs. Paola (17-7). Wellsville and West Franklin play at 8 p.m. Tuesday with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s late game against top-seeded Iola.

The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday

6 p.m. — Paola vs. Ottawa

8 p.m. — Wellsville vs. West Franklin

Wednesday

6 p.m. — Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser

8 p.m. — Wellsville-WF winner vs. Iola

Thursday

6 p.m. — Winner of Game 3 vs. loser of Wellsville-WF-Iola

8 p.m. — Paola-Ottawa winner vs. winner of Wellsville-WF-Iola

Friday

6 p.m. — Semifinals

8 p.m. — Championship

Saturday

Noon — If championship
