Lady Braves soccer stops Pioneers

The Ottawa University women’s soccer team dominated the possession and play Tuesday in a 3-0 win over MidAmerica Nazarene University at Peoples Bank Field.

The Ottawa defense stuffed MNU, who had a few good scoring chances, but were thwarted by Ottawa keeper Erin Stengel.

The sophomore keeper finished with six saves. Ottawa had an 11-6 advantage on shots on goals.

Caroline Jenkins netted two goals, the first of her collegiate career.

Autumn Surage got Ottawa on the board in the 14th minute.

Morgan Trupp’s pass found a wide open Surage, who buried the shot.

Jenkins first goal came in the 60th minute on an assist from Trupp to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead. Jenkins’ second goal came in the 75th minute to give Ottawa a three-goal cushion.

Jenkins led Ottawa with four shots and Surage had three. Eight players had at least one shot. Ottawa had 14 total shots.

Ottawa (1-0-0) plays 7 p.m. Saturday at home against nationally-ranked Missouri Valley College at Peoples Bank Field.
