OU volleyball snaps losing skid

LEAVENWORTH — The Ottawa University volleyball team Tuesday broke its two-match slide with a straight sets win over University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth.

Ottawa won 25-16, 25-18, 25-21. The Lady Braves were coming off losses to Friends (3-1) and Tabor (3-2) this past weekend. The losses snapped a conference 23-match winning streak.

Ottawa won 25-16, 25-18, 25-21. The Lady Braves were coming off losses to Friends (3-1) and Tabor (3-2) this past weekend. The losses snapped a conference 23-match winning streak.

The Lady Braves held Saint Mary to a .136 hitting percentage.

In the opening set, Ottawa had 17 kills in 31 attempts with just one error for a .516 hitting percentage. Ottawa continued with the hot hitting while holding the Spires to hitting percentages of .194, .049 and .194.

Ottawa had two players in double figure kills, led by Nicole Gingery’s 11 in 19 attempts for a .579 hitting percentage. Taylor Bridge was right behind her with 10.

Christa Hill led Ottawa with 20 assists and Lindsey Widen tallied 12. Hill earned her first career double-double as a Lady Brave, finishing with 13 digs.    

Ottawa (6-8, 3-2) plays 7 p.m. Friday at home  against College of the Ozarks.
