TOPEKA — The Ottawa High School doubles team of Brianna Fitzenmaier and Kelsie Ferguson lost both matches Saturday at the 4A State Tennis Tournament in Topeka.

The pair lost to Pratt, 6-1, 6-1, in the state first-round match.

“I thought we competed hard in this match, but Pratt just didn’t make many mistakes and they had better placement at the net,” Ottawa coach Eric Sparks said.

“We had our chances and took many games to deuce, but just couldn’t close out games.”

The Cyclone doubles squad lost 9-1 to Andover Central in the back draw.

“We didn’t play very well in this match, but once again got beat by a very strong team,” Sparks said. Overall, I thought Brianna and Kelsey had a great season and worked hard throughout.

"I know they would have liked to have done better at state, but getting there is a great accomplishment in itself. I’ve enjoyed getting to know them both.”
