Ottawa soccer teams stop Sterling

STERLING — Cold weather and snow did not slow down the Ottawa University soccer teams Friday in Sterling.

The Lady Braves picked up their third conference victory with a 4-0 win over Sterling College in Sterling. The Braves won 2-1.

The Lady Braves picked up their third conference victory with a 4-0 win over Sterling College in Sterling. The Braves won 2-1.

The Lady Braves scored two goals in each half. Kallie Bindner scored in the 13th minute of play, giving Ottawa a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later Angelica Tapia put the ball past the Sterling keeper.

Ottawa netted its third goal two minutes into the second half. Jordan Tapia scored off of a pass from Lauren Whitney. The fourth goal came in the 57th minute by Autumn Surage. Angelica Tapia had the assist.

Ottawa keeper Samantha Gitmed had two saves. The Lady Braves had a 17-7 lead in shots and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.

The Lady Braves (7-5-1, 3-1-0) play 5 p.m. Wednesday at home against Southwestern.

The Ottawa men’s squad rallied in the final two minutes of regulation for the win.

The victory is Ottawa’s second straight.

The Braves netted two goals late in the match. At the 87:55 mark, Max Brewer scored. Just 54 seconds later, Zack Hanks headed the ball past Sterling keeper Nick Seeley off of a pass from Andres Perez

Sterling took the early lead with a goal just six minutes into the contest. Ottawa had a 18-9 lead in shots and a 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The Braves (4-8-2, 2-1-2) plays 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at home against Southwestern College.
