SANTA CLARITA, California — A long way from home, the Lady Braves stood their ground against an undefeated foe.

Ottawa stunned No. 9 The Masters University in a 4-0 blowout Thursday in California, the first of two matches against ranked teams the OU women’s soccer team will play in the state.

The Lady Braves had a hot start with two goals in the first 16 minutes. Ady Barazza, junior midfielder, scored at the 10:26 mark off an assist by Caroline Jenkins, senior forward. Ashley Alonzo, senior midfielder, scored less than five minutes later at the 15:17 mark off an assist by Sydney Alexander, senior midfielder.

Cortney Gonzalez, senior defender, scored off an assist by Deanna Passerella two seconds before halftime to give Ottawa a 3-0 lead.

That lead extended less than four minutes into the second half when Jenkins scored to give the Lady Braves an insurmountable lead.

Ottawa nipped The Masters 13-12 in total shots, and had an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The No. 13 Lady Braves (4-0-1) play No. 10 Vanguard University 1 p.m. Saturday in Costa Mesa, California.
