ROSSVILLE — In a tournament with several ranked teams, Ottawa found itself on the winning edge.
The Lady Cyclones volleyball team took third place in Rossville Saturday, coming out of the tourney with a 4-2 record.
Ottawa won three straight pool play matches, topping Tonganoxie 22-25, 25-16, 25-19; Wamego 26-24, 25-19 and Clay Center 27-25, 24-26, 25-21. The only pool loss came to the No. 2 ranked team in 3A, Silver Lake, in a close two sets, 25-22, 25-17.
In bracket play, the Lady Cyclones dropped another close match to Abilene, No. 7 in 4A DI, 25-17, 25-22.
In the third-place match, Ottawa regrouped and put on a strong performance against El Dorado, taking the match 25-20, 25-17.
It marks the first winning tournament of the year for Ottawa. After starting 2-6, the Lady Cyclones have picked up steam, going 6-4 since, including three wins in matches that they’ve lost one set.
Ottawa (8-10) returns to league play 6:30 p.m. today at Spring Hill.
