CRETE, Nebraska – Ottawa University enters conference play on the heels of two losses against tough opponents. The Lady Braves basketball team (2-4) will play 6 p.m. at Sterling College Wednesday.

Host Doane University and No. 20 Hastings College gave OU a thumping over the weekend in the Tiger Classic at Crete, Nebraska. Hastings topped Ottawa 71-39 Friday, and Doane won 76-46 Saturday.

The Lady Braves led Hastings 12-9 through one quarter, but a 33-9 run in the second put the Lady Broncos up for good.

Similarly on Saturday, OU looked strong out of the gate. Doane led 12-11 late in the first quarter before going on a 30-4 run to make it 42-15 at halftime.

In both games, Ottawa struggled with turnovers. The team had a 6-27 assist/turnover ratio against Hastings, and a 6-25 ratio against Doane.

Leslie Speer and Jessica King, both senior forwards, had 10 points apiece against Hastings. Speer led the team in scoring against Doane with 15 points.
