POMONA — Behind smart ball-handling and a big senior performance, the West Franklin boys got a big win Tuesday. The Falcon prep basketball team topped Mission Valley 46-42 at West Franklin High School, 511 E. Franklin St., Pomona.

“We were able to take care of the ball [Tuesday], put some pressure on at the end and create a few stops, which allowed us to wind down the clock at the end and pull it out,” Micah Tempel, WFHS head basketball coach, said.

Hunter Lewis, senior, dropped 27 points on Mission Valley to lead all scorers. Tempel also complimented his team’s ability to keep mistakes at a minimum.

“Of course, Hunter with 27 points had a great game, but so did Clayton Noyons taking care of the basketball for us, and limiting turnovers,” he said. “It feels good to have a win going into the break. [We have] lots of things to improve.”

Defensively, West Franklin kept the Vikings from having a double-digit scorer.
